What environmental conditions do marine transformers have to handle?
Vibration and shock from machinery and hull movement, humidity and salt spray, operation at inclination, restricted installation space and noise limits in accommodation areas. Each one changes the mechanical and cooling design.
Why is dry type construction preferred on board ship?
There is no oil, so there is no fire load and no containment requirement in an enclosed space, which matters inside a hull. Dry type and cast resin units are also lighter for a given rating and need far less maintenance at sea.
Which classification societies do you work to?
Where a project requires it we support the documentation, inspection and witness testing process for the classification society named in the specification, and we state plainly which approvals we hold and which would be obtained for the project.
What voltage systems can you supply for?
Shipboard distribution voltages and frequencies are set by the vessel design, including 60 Hz systems. Ratings, vector group and enclosure are built to the distribution system you specify.
