How We Approach an Application

Industry pages are easy to write and hard to write well. The useful version tells a buyer what the load looks like, what that means for the transformer, and how to tell whether a proposed design will survive. That is the structure we use on every application page here.

• Load character — is the load continuous or cyclic, is it linear or harmonic rich, and does it include frequent short circuits or heavy starting? A furnace and a building distribution board are both loads, but they demand completely different designs.
• Selection criteria — capacity bands, voltage classes, impedance, cooling and protection, expressed as decision rules rather than adjectives.
• Typical configurations — what an installation in that industry usually looks like, so a buyer can place their own requirement against it.
• Service conditions — ambient temperature, altitude, contamination, corrosion and maintenance access, all of which change the design as much as the electrical rating does.

Our delivered project record is in 10 kV and 35 kV power distribution and electrical installation. The heavy process designs — furnace, rectifier and marine — are engineering capability offered as new build against your specification. On any enquiry we will say which part of the requirement we have built before and which we would be building for the first time, rather than letting you find out later.
