A prefabricated substation is built in our workshop rather than on your site. The switchgear, transformer and LV board arrive fitted, wired and tested as one unit, so the work left on site is a foundation, a cable termination and a commissioning check.
If you are comparing a prefabricated substation manufacturer in China against a local builder, the decision usually turns on interface risk. We build, wire and routine-test the complete unit before it leaves the workshop, so what arrives is one piece of equipment with one wiring diagram and one test report.
That approach matters most where site access is difficult, where the programme is tight, or where the local labour for a built-up substation room is expensive or hard to find.
Why Projects Choose Prefabrication
- Shorter site programme – the electrical work happens while the civil work is still going on, rather than after it.
- Fewer trades on site – one delivery and one commissioning visit instead of a sequence of contractors.
- Tested before it leaves – wiring errors are found in the workshop, where they are cheap to fix.
- Repeatable quality – the same layout can be reproduced across several sites, which simplifies spares and training.
Configurations We Supply
| Configuration | Where it fits | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard outdoor kiosk | Utility and industrial distribution | The base design |
| Underground or semi-underground | Dense urban sites, visual constraints | Sealed enclosure, drainage, ventilation |
| Landscape style | Residential and commercial frontages | Cladding, colour, reduced height |
| Walk-in type | Larger ratings, multiple transformers | Internal access, lighting, ventilation |
| IoT monitored | Networks with remote supervision | Sensors, gateway, data to your SCADA |
What We Do Before We Build
Two things decide whether a prefabricated unit works on your site: the transport envelope and the heat. We check the access route, the crane position and the turning radius before finalising the dimensions, and we calculate the ventilation against your ambient temperature and altitude rather than against a catalogue figure.
We also agree the standard set with you in writing. Where the project specifies IEC 62271-202 for the assembly, IEC 62271-200 for the MV switchgear and IEC 61439 for the LV board, we confirm the applicable clauses before production. If your network operator works to a national standard instead, we build to that.
Delivery and Handover
Each unit leaves with its arrangement drawings, wiring diagrams, test reports and a termination schedule. We can attend the commissioning, but in most projects the local contractor handles it with our documentation and a remote call if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a prefabricated substation?
A substation whose switchgear, transformer and LV distribution are assembled and tested in a factory, then delivered to site as a complete unit. It replaces a built-up substation room with a single enclosure on a prepared foundation.
How long does a prefabricated substation last outdoors?
That depends on the enclosure material, the coating system and the site environment. Galvanised and painted steel is the normal choice; stainless steel or a higher coating specification is used on coastal and industrial sites. We specify the finish against your site conditions.
Can it be monitored remotely?
Yes. We supply units with sensors for temperature, load and door status, feeding a gateway that talks to your SCADA over the protocol you use.
Is a walk-in version available?
Yes, for larger ratings or where more than one transformer is needed. Walk-in units have internal access, lighting and ventilation, and are usually split into transportable sections.
Can the enclosure colour be matched to the surroundings?
Yes. Colour, cladding and height can be adjusted for residential and commercial frontages, and we will send a finish sample for approval before production.
