Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a ship transformer and a shore transformer?
The electrical principle is the same, but a ship unit has to survive continuous vibration, salt laden air and operation when the hull is inclined, and it usually has to fit a much tighter envelope with restricted access for maintenance.
How is noise controlled on board?
Through core design and flux density selection, resilient mounting and enclosure treatment. Noise limits are tightest near accommodation spaces, so they are fixed at specification stage rather than discovered on sea trials.
Can you build for 60 Hz shipboard systems?
Yes. Frequency is set by the vessel design and we build to the stated system frequency rather than to a single domestic standard.
Do you supply shore connection transformers?
Yes. Shore to ship power connection requires matching the shore supply to the vessel system, which is handled as an engineered order against the berth and vessel specification.
