A transformer substation is not only the transformer. It is the transformer plus the switchgear that feeds it, the board that distributes what comes out of it, and the enclosure that holds all three. When those pieces are bought from different suppliers, the interfaces become your problem.
The transformer side of a substation package is specified separately from the switchgear. Our substation transformer range is organised in three component categories: dry-type and cast resin transformers, oil-immersed transformers, power transformers.
As a compact substation manufacturer we build the transformer, the MV switchgear that feeds it and the LV board that distributes what comes out of it in one workshop. A package substation therefore leaves routine-tested as a single unit, not as three deliveries meeting for the first time on your foundations.
Because we work as an electrical distribution equipment manufacturer rather than as an assembler of bought-in parts, the compact substation and prefabricated substation supplier scope sits in the same workshop. Transformer, MV switchgear, LV board and enclosure are sized against one load schedule and tested against one test plan.
We supply the whole chain, which means the transformer rating, the protection scheme and the LV outgoing arrangement are decided together and documented in one set of drawings.
What the Package Covers
| Element | What we supply |
|---|---|
| Transformer | Oil-immersed or cast resin dry-type, to the rating your load needs |
| MV side | Incoming switchgear, protection, metering, surge arresters |
| LV side | Outgoing feeders, neutral bar, measurement, power factor correction |
| Enclosure | Outdoor kiosk, walk-in or underground, to the site requirement |
| Documentation | Arrangement drawings, wiring diagrams, test reports |
| Support | Answers during installation and commissioning |
Choosing the Transformer for the Substation
- Oil-immersed – the usual choice outdoors, with a bunded base where the site requires oil containment.
- Cast resin dry-type – specified where the unit is indoors, or where fire risk and environmental rules rule out oil.
- Rating – set by your load list and the diversity you expect, not by what happens to be in stock. Oversizing carries a continuous no-load loss for the life of the unit.
- Voltage ratio – matched to the network voltage at the point of connection and the utilisation voltage on site.
One Scope, One Set of Drawings
The practical benefit of buying the package from one supplier is that the protection grading, the cable terminations and the earthing are designed once. If your consultant has already produced a design, we build to it and tell you where we think it can be improved. If you are starting from a load list, we propose an arrangement and price it.
Where your project names a standard, we build to it and confirm the clause set before production. We do not claim a certification we have not been asked to obtain for your order.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a transformer substation?
A substation whose main function is to step voltage down for distribution, combining the transformer with the MV switchgear that feeds it and the LV board that distributes the output. In a compact or prefabricated unit all three are in one enclosure.
Should the transformer be oil or dry-type?
Oil-immersed is the normal choice outdoors. Cast resin dry-type is specified where the unit is indoors, or where fire risk, ventilation or environmental rules make oil awkward. We will explain what the choice does to the enclosure and the price.
How do I size the transformer?
From your load list and the diversity you expect, checked against the starting currents of the largest motors. We will look at your list and tell you what we would specify and why.
Can you work to a consultant’s design?
Yes. Send the single-line diagram and the specification and we will build to it, and flag anything we think should be reconsidered.
What does the package include?
Transformer, MV switchgear, LV board, enclosure, interconnection, routine tests and the documentation set. Civil works and site cabling are normally by others.
