Transformers for Bangladesh | Utility and Industrial Supply

Bangladesh combines one of the densest rural electrification programmes in Asia with a garment-manufacturing base that owns its own substations, and both run on the same 50 Hz, 230/400 V supply. The engineering problems are humidity, monsoon flooding and very high load density per square metre of factory floor — each of which changes the equipment more than the rating label suggests.

Grid Context and Standards

The grid is operated by BPDB in generation-transmission, by DESCO and DPDC in the Dhaka urban area, and by the PBS network under REB in rural areas, with common distribution voltages of 33 kV and 11 kV. Specifications follow IEC 60076 through the utilities’ own data sheets. Factory substations are usually 11/0.4 kV with the owner responsible for the indoor room and the utility for the metering point.

What We Supply

Climate: Monsoon Flooding and Humidity

Site level is the first decision: in flood-prone districts the plinth height, cable entry direction and drainage around the enclosure are set with the civil drawing, not after it. Indoors, the humidity argument lands the same way as in Vietnam — cast resin windings for rooms that see condensation, with space heaters in the enclosure as a second line of defence. Ventilation sizing assumes a wet bulb that northern designs never see.

Conformity, Testing and Shipping

Conformity is handled per project: IEC 60076 routine test reports, third-party witness testing if the utility or lender requires it, and documentation packs prepared for the shipment. Standard lead time is 30 days from drawing approval with a two-year warranty, quoted FOB, CFR or CIF.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which transformer suits an RMG factory substation?

Dry type transformers up to 6000 kVA indoors, or a compact substation at the plot boundary — decided by the building layout and the utility metering point.

How is flooding accounted for?

Plinth height, cable entry position and drainage are agreed on the civil arrangement drawing before production, so the enclosure sits above the known flood level.

What is the lead time?

Standard lead time is 30 days from drawing approval, with a two-year warranty.
